$2.2M Push for Indonesia’s Top Streamer Vidio

Indonesian conglomerate Sinar Mas has invested $2.2 million in Vidio, a fast-growing local streaming platform, to help boost its content creation, strengthen its tech infrastructure, and cement its leadership in Indonesia’s digital entertainment space.
Founded in 2014 and operated by Emtek Group, Vidio has quickly risen to the top of the country’s video on demand market.
It now stands as Indonesia’s most popular streaming service, outperforming global giants like Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar in terms of local user engagement.
The platform features a wide variety of content, including live TV, sports, movies, and a growing library of original Indonesian series.
Supporting Local Innovation
This investment signals Sinar Mas’ commitment to backing local tech talent and digital innovation. The funding will allow Vidio to ramp up production of original shows, improve user experience, and further tailor its offerings to Indonesian viewers.
“We believe Vidio is shaping the future of digital entertainment in Indonesia,” said a Sinar Mas spokesperson. “We see strong value in platforms that blend local culture with innovation.”
Competing Globally, Winning Locally
Unlike many global platforms, Vidio has thrived by putting Indonesian language, culture, and preferences at the center of its strategy.
Its exclusive streaming rights to local sports leagues and culturally resonant dramas have helped it build a loyal user base of millions.
With this new funding round, Vidio is expected to accelerate its growth, enhance its recommendation algorithms, and potentially expand into neighboring Southeast Asian markets in the near future.
