AI Meets Law: Wordsmith Bags $25M Series A

Edinburgh based legal tech startup Wordsmith AI has taken a major step forward in the legal technology landscape.
Launched in 2023, the company has successfully raised $25 million in a Series A funding round, bringing its valuation to over $100 million in less than two years. The round was led by Index Ventures, with support from Scottish Enterprise, and signals Wordsmith’s intention to scale globally.
Founded by former lawyer and software developer Ross McNairn, along with co-founders Volodymyr Giginiak and Robbie Falkenthal, Wordsmith AI has developed a platform that acts like a “control tower” for corporate legal teams.
Their system uses customizable AI agents to manage tasks such as contract reviews, legal Q&A, and internal compliance streamlining complex workflows and saving time.
Expansion Plans and Vision for the Future
With the newly secured funding, Wordsmith AI is aiming to:
- Establish new offices in London and New York
- Grow its technical and commercial teams
- Create a legal AI innovation hub in Scotland
The startup is also working alongside international law firm DLA Piper to co develop and test advanced legal AI applications tools designed to convert legal expertise into digital knowledge agents that legal departments can easily access.
Wordsmith’s AI tools are already being used by well-known brands such as Trustpilot, Deliveroo, and Multiverse.
Tech leaders have shown strong confidence in the company’s direction. Skyscanner co founder Gareth Williams described Wordsmith as “a once in a generation opportunity to reinvent legal services with AI.”
